Our Story

Lavista, meaning 'the view' in Spanish refers to the cool, coastal surroundings of Hobart that has inspired the band’s music from the beginning. What began as two childhood friends (Ben and Con) having a casual jam, sparked what was to become their biggest musical journey together. After countless hours spent jamming, writing, playing gigs and finally recording, the final band line up was formed.

Ben (vocals), Con (guitar), Simon (drums), Paul (bass) and Shep (keys) all grew up on the isolated island of Tasmania and while some would say this is a disadvantage, they believe that their music has a certain life to it that could not be obtained by large city living. Not to be fooled by the island life, Lavista’s sound is far from small. Heavily layered soundscapes, strong vocals and heartfelt lyrics deliver their music to a broader audience.

Initially playing small shows helped the band to develop their sound and remain humble, soon earning a reputation as an exciting, upcoming band to watch. Lavista has since supported bands such as British India, Tame Impala, Amy Meredith, Stonefield, Little Red, Hungry Kids of Hungary and Asta.

Since forming in 2010, the five-piece have played at festivals, such as Falls and Soundscape, and have released their self titled debut EP. Their single 'Walk Alone' was played on rotation on Australian national radio station SeaFM as well as community radio stations Ultra 106.5 and Edge Radio.

Currently, the band is recording their first album due to be released in mid 2014. The debut single 'Freedom' is an uplifting anthem that highlights the bands desire to take their music to a much larger scale.

As this musical journey continues so does the bands willingness to evolve their sound and create a powerful live experience.
